Starting in 1995, Mattel released a collection of Barbie dolls that many were sure to enjoy and want to collect. This collection was “The Wizard of Oz” collection. Included in this collection are the characters of Dorothy Gale, Glinda the Good Witch, the Cowardly Lion, the Wicked Witch of the West, the Wicked Witch of the East, the Tin Man, and the Munchkins. Many of these dolls are no longer available directly from the Mattel company, but, for those who truly wish to purchase these dolls, it is possible to find through collector websites and auctions.

Additionally, many of these dolls have various versions available. Some of the versions are from the initial ‘Collectors’ line and others are from other doll lines, such as the “Pink Label” line.

The original Dorothy Gale doll from the “Collector’s Edition” line was released in 1995 and was the first “Wizard of Oz” doll to be made available. This doll features Barbie as the character Dorothy in an authentic replica of Dorothy’s iconic dress. Additionally, she carries a small straw basket accompanied by Toto. Of course, Dorothy trip down the Yellow Brick Road wouldn’t be complete with the proper footwear accessories, the ruby red slippers.

The second doll to be released in this collection was Glinda the Good Witch. Glinda came dressed in her beautiful sparkling peach gown. To finish off her magical appearance, Glinda wore a silver choker, a tall silver crown, and carried her magical wand. This doll was released in January of 1996.
