Twilight Barbies are Sure to Have Twihards Swooning

Twilight Barbies- Bella and EdwardTwilight Barbies- Bella and EdwardI am not a Barbie fan, nor a Twilight fan, but it doesn’t take a fan of either mega-franchise to realize that Twilight Barbies spell one thing: M-O-N-E-Y. So far, the two franchises have gotten together to create a Bella Swan Barbie and an Edward Cullen Barbie and a Jacob Barbie. To further capitalize on the Twilight franchise, Mattel is going to market Alice Cullen Barbies and evil Victoria Barbies as well.

According to Ashley Greene who plays Alice in the Twilight movies, the Alice Cullen Barbie is “pretty awesome”. The star has yet to see herself immortalized in the form of a Barbie doll, but has had the opportunity to see more than a few pics of the forthcoming Barbie. It must be quite a treat.

So, how do the other Barbies measure up to some of the Barbies of the past?

To be honest, the Bella Swan Barbie Doll is not that  different from the original Barbie doll- she’s a little more demure, a little tamer, but because she is still human, the form isn’t so different. The Edward Cullen Barbie doll on the other hand, looks just as metro-sexual as Robert Pattinson does in the Twilight films and doesn’t quite have the same build as the Ken dolls did. I think that the only common ground between the two is an over-emphasis on hair. Jakob, on the other hand, is incredibly cut and looks to be just as muscular as the original Ken. Mattel and Barbie are not the only ones taking advantage of the Twilight Series popularity; doll-maker Tonner made 5,000 17-inch Edward Cullen dolls three months ago- every single Edward doll has already been sold out even at an expensive $129 per doll. Given the HUGE amount of Twi-hards out there, it’s unsurprising that the company believes that many of the doll’s buyers are not traditional doll-collectors, just fanatic Twilight fans.

I think the store manager quoted in this article just might be a Twihard herself judging from this quote about the Tonner dolls: "They're so much more realistic that it's almost like having the star in your house, rather than having just a doll."

Since Edward is a Vampire who could possibly kill me, I don't think I'll be buying that particular doll any time soon.
