Mad Men Barbie dollsBarbie is going retro this time- Mattel is planning to release collector item Barbie dolls featuring no less than the cast of Mad Men. The bee-hive up-dos and and the retro dresses complete with scarves and the requisite jewelry look absolutely stunning, and as the figures of the women on the show are already hour-glass, keeping to their attractive body lines shouldn’t be much of a problem. There is a slight irony in the creation of Mad Men characters for a barbie doll collection. None of the characters on the show has what anyone would ever consider to be the best of reputations. In fact, the characters on Mad Men are known more for getting into somewhat sketchy business shenanigans and for countless sexual escapades than they are for upholding high moral standards. My only hope is that the Mad Men Barbies don’t ruin Barbie’s reputation- I’d hate to see Barbie cast in a bad light or as a poor role model. I know that it wouldn’t be the first time that Barbie would be controversial, but it is an interesting choice for Mattel to make. I really have to wonder who approached who for the dolls to be made.
