Dear Barbie,
You are the best role model a girl could have. You are pretty, you are smart, and you are the most popular girl in the world. Lots of people want to say bad things about you, but those people are just jealous that they could never in a million years be as cool as you! Some people go so far as to project their own insecurities on you, I say those people are crazy(talk about having ISSUES!). So, don't listen to the haters out there, and just have a happy birthday! You're turning 50 and you look great! I hope I look as good as you when I'm that old.

Dear Barbie,
I remember when we first met, I was a boy of twelve and you were laying in the backyard, abandoned on the grass by my ten year old sister. Your long, golden, silky hair disheveled, and your plastic body, exposed in the burning afternoon light. You thought I was going to rescue you to the safety of the house, but I had other plans for you. I've never had more fun using my dad's band saw, thanks to you. The punishment that ensued after was well worth it. And my sister forgave me, eventually.

Barbie the Muse: How Barbie has inspired artists
Painting by MonsalHere's a painting by Seattle-based artist Mon Sal, who has found Barbie to be her muse. The artist, born and raised in El Salvador never played with Barbies until she was an adult, having been brought up in a Marxist household, Barbie was a forbidden object in her household. Now that the artist resides in the US she can't get enough of Barbie. She is currently working on a website to showcase her art, this is just a sneak preview of what is to come.
